Market development

National Non-Food Crops Centre (NNFCC) is the UK’s National Centre for Biorenewable Fuels, Chemicals and Materials. It provides strategic advice on the supply of biomass and its use in industrial applications to government, industry and academia. NNFCC are therefore ideally placed to assess the potential opportunities and barriers to the deployment of algal bioenergy in the region. It is co-ordinating EnAlgae’s work on developing economically and environmentally sustainable markets for algal energy. This includes leading an analysis of the policy environment for biofuels and bioenergy and how this applies to algae, and contributing to an analysis of research and development competence in algae. Drawing upon project results, NNFCC will lead the development of a SWOT analysis and a strategic action plan to develop algae for bioenergy in the short, medium and long terms.
